What types of minimally invasive spine surgeries does Laser Spine Institute perform?
When you think about most neck or back surgeries, you probably picture a painful, invasive ordeal involving a long hospital stay and lengthy recovery. With Laser Spine Institute, you can picture this; an outpatient procedure, performed in a state-of-the-art facility, using a less than 1-inch incision.

Laser Spine Institute specializes in the following minimally invasive decompression procedures:
The complexity of a spine condition varies by patient. While most of our patients find relief from our minimally invasive decompression procedures, others require a more involved surgery. In these cases, some patients may require a minimally invasive stabilization (MIS), sometimes called a fusion.
Laser Spine Institute currently performs the following minimally invasive stabilizations:
How is minimally invasive spine surgery performed?
At Laser Spine Institute, we specialize in minimally invasive procedures with maximum results. Our minimally invasive decompression procedures involve a less than 1-inch incision. A hollow tube is inserted into the incision. Next, a series of tubes, increasing in size, is placed over the first tube, one at a time, to slowly create an opening to the spine. This does not require tearing of the muscle. The last tube, or working tube, is 18 mm in diameter, and once in place, all other tubes are removed. Finally, a camera, suction, irrigation and other small surgical tools are inserted through the tube. Throughout the procedure, the anesthesia provider monitors the patient’s vital signs, administering medication and intravenous fluids. A surgical technician stands by the surgeon to hand him or her instruments they need. And a circulating nurse coordinates the operating-room team, communicates with the patient and keeps the room temperature comfortable.
In some instances, patients can also benefit from a minimally invasive approach to spine fusion called minimally invasive stabilization (MIS) surgery. Laser Spine Institute specializes in MIS procedures — all performed in an outpatient setting.

What is the recuperation process like?
Most patients are pleased to discover that after a day of rest, they are ready for their postoperative appointment. Because each patient’s healing experience may differ, we do our best to provide specialized instructions regarding postoperative activity and to clearly communicate any limitations. Over the weeks and months following the procedure, you’ll experience gradual, continuous improvement as the nerves and tissues heal. And in time, you may gradually start to increase daily activities.
